A winter wedding at Cameron Estate Inn comes with a few things you have to think about differently. The days are shorter, the weather can change quickly, and nobody wants to spend an hour outside freezing just for photos. But we’ll happily stay out there as long as we need to get the shot! Thankfully, Cameron Estate Inn gives us plenty to work with indoors and out. Which makes planning around winter weather a whole lot easier.
But what really stood out about this wedding had much more to do with the people than the season. We had photographed this couple’s engagement session before the wedding, so by the time we showed up at Cameron Estate Inn, we already knew each other pretty well. They knew how we worked, we knew what helped them feel comfortable in front of the camera, and we didn’t have to spend the first part of the day getting everyone used to being photographed. We could jump right in, which made the whole experience feel much more relaxed.
This was a fun group to be around! The bride’s friends were right there helping her get ready, including one friend who actually made her bouquet by hand that morning. There was a fake first look that had everyone losing it, quiet moments of prayer, and personal details that meant a lot to the couple and their families.
Their cultures were also a big part of the day. The ceremony was spoken in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. They also included a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony, and later in the night, the reception turned into a very lively dance floor with plenty of Latin dancing!
As a Washington, DC photographer, this is exactly the kind of wedding we love photographing. There was always something happening! From the traditions they included to the way their friends and family showed up for them throughout the day!
Winter Wedding Planning at Cameron Estate Inn
When you’re looking at Pennsylvania wedding venues for a winter wedding, one of our biggest pieces of advice is to look beyond how pretty the grounds are. Because yes, we absolutely want pretty portrait locations. But we also want to know what happens when it’s 30 degrees outside! Nobody has any interest in standing around in the cold for an hour. That’s one reason Cameron Estate Inn works so well in the winter!
The property is located in Mount Joy in Lancaster County and has both indoor and outdoor ceremony options. For colder months, the Conservatory gives couples an indoor ceremony space with floor-to-ceiling windows, chandeliers, and a marble fireplace. There are also two reception options, the Spring View Ballroom and Carriage House. They have adjoining spaces that can be used for cocktail hour.
From a photography standpoint, having those options is huge! We’re not trying to force every portrait outside just because “that’s what we planned.” We can take you outside when the light is good, grab what we need, and get you back inside before your fingers stop working.
Very glamorous. Very winter wedding. Cameron Estate also has overnight accommodations on the property, which can simplify things for your wedding party and out-of-town guests. That’s something we’d seriously consider when comparing Pennsylvania wedding venues for a winter date. Fewer people driving between multiple locations when the weather is questionable is never a bad thing!
Why We Love Doing the Engagement Session Before the Wedding
One of the nice things about showing up to this wedding was that we already knew these two. We had photographed their engagement session beforehand, so there wasn’t that first-day-of-school feeling where we’re all meeting for the first time while you’re also trying to get married.
They already knew what it was like to be in front of our cameras! How much direction we’d give them and that we weren’t expecting them to magically know what to do. Plus we already knew them as a couple: how they interacted, what got them laughing, and when they needed a little more guidance versus when we could just step back and let them do their thing.
That made wedding day feel a lot more comfortable from the start! It’s a big reason we recommend engagement sessions when couples are able to fit one in. Yes, you get great photos out of it! But you also get a chance to work with us before the wedding when there’s a lot less going on.
Our photography blends documentary moments with a more editorial approach. So we’ll give you direction when you need it without making the entire session feel like one long pose. We want the polished portraits, but we’re also watching for what happens once you relax a little, the laughs between photos, the conversations while we’re walking, and all the small interactions that are naturally part of who you are together.
With these two, we could see that comfort carry right over into their wedding at Cameron Estate Inn. It gave us even more freedom to focus on everything happening around them!

Using Your Engagement Photos on Your Wedding Day
One thing we loved seeing when we arrived at Cameron Estate Inn was their engagement photos printed and displayed on a photo table. We spend so much time with our couples during their engagement session. So it’s always fun to see those photos actually being used on the wedding day instead of living in an online gallery forever!
There are so many easy ways to use them. You can frame a few for your welcome table, add them around cocktail hour or use them in a guest book. You can also mix them in with other photos of the two of you throughout the years. It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate!
This is also where having a mix of documentary and editorial engagement photos works really well. You have the polished portraits you’d want to frame. But you also have the more casual photos where you’re laughing, walking around, or just being yourselves. When you print a mix of both, it gives guests a little glimpse into your relationship outside of the wedding day.
For these two, it was really fun to photograph their engagement session. To see those images displayed at their wedding, and they get to add an entirely new set of memories to the collection. It’s one of those small details that made the photo table feel a lot more personal to them.
The Personal Details We Knew Mattered
There were also a few quieter moments throughout the day that we knew were important to them. The bride had a small photo of her dad incorporated into her necklace. It was such a simple, personal way to have him with her throughout the wedding. It wasn’t something everyone would necessarily notice, but knowing what it meant to her made it something we wanted to make sure we photographed.
Faith was also a big part of their relationship, and prayer naturally came up throughout the day. These weren’t moments we needed to step into or give a bunch of direction for. We could hang back, let them have that time, and document it without turning it into a photo opportunity.
That’s why getting to know our couples before the wedding is so helpful. We want to know about the things that might not be obvious to us just by looking at the timeline. A First Look The Groom Definitely Wasn’t Expecting
Before the actual first look, Laedor’s friends had something else planned for him. One of his friends, a very big guy, which is important context here, put on a wedding dress and walked out in place of the bride.
Laedor had absolutely no idea. He turned around expecting to see his bride and instead saw his friend standing there in a wedding dress. His reaction was exactly what you’d expect, and pretty much everyone watching immediately lost it. We were trying to photograph the whole thing while laughing right along with them!
We love when friends bring this kind of personality into a wedding day. Not every moment needs to be planned around getting a beautiful photo or checking something off the timeline. Sometimes your friends decide to mess with you five minutes before your first look, and we’re more than happy to go along with it. Once everyone pulled themselves together, we moved on to the actual first look, which felt very different from the first one, thankfully!
Bringing Both Families and Cultures Into the Ceremony
One of our favorite parts of this Cameron Estate Inn wedding was seeing how both families were included throughout the ceremony. Their officiant spoke in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, so everyone could actually follow along and be part of what was happening, regardless of which language they spoke.
They also included a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony. This gave them another opportunity to bring their family’s traditions into the day. It felt really natural to who they are and to the families they were bringing together.
We love seeing couples make room for traditions from both sides rather than feeling like they have to choose one or make everything fit the same format. If something matters to your family, there’s usually a way to include it. Maybe that’s a tea ceremony, multiple languages, a religious tradition, or something your family has done at weddings for generations.
As Koreans ourselves, we also have a special place in our hearts for multicultural weddings. We understand how much meaning can be packed into traditions that other people might not immediately understand, and we love getting to learn about the different ways our couples bring their backgrounds and families into their wedding day. It’s one of our favorite parts of what we do.
It also helps us photograph everything better. When we know what’s happening, who’s involved, and why a tradition matters to you, we can be in the right place without constantly stepping in or interrupting. You get to actually experience the moment with your family, and we can focus on documenting it as it happens!
When the Dance Floor Got Going
The energy definitely carried over into the reception. The groom’s family brought plenty of Latin influence to the dance floor, and once the music started, people were ready to dance! There really wasn’t much convincing needed.
This is one of our favorite parts of a wedding day to photograph because we get to loosen up a little too. Earlier in the day, we’re keeping an eye on the timeline, finding good light for portraits, and generally keeping track of a million little things. Once the dance floor opens, we can focus almost entirely on what’s happening around us!
At this reception, there was always something happening. We were right there in the middle of the dancing! Watching for the reactions, the friends pulling each other onto the floor, and all the random moments you really couldn’t plan if you tried. There was a lot of Latin dancing, a lot of people joining in, and plenty for us to photograph.
For a winter wedding, the reception at Cameron Estate Inn had no shortage of energy. It was also really fun seeing the different sides of their families come together in a completely different way than they had during the ceremony. This time with much louder music and a whole lot more dancing!
Planning Winter Wedding Photos at Cameron Estate Inn
Something we always pay extra attention to with a winter wedding at Cameron Estate Inn is daylight. Everyone knows it’s probably going to be cold, but it’s surprisingly easy to forget just how early it gets dark in the winter. That can make a pretty big difference when we’re figuring out your wedding timeline.
If outdoor portraits are important to you, we’ll plan around the light from the beginning rather than getting to the wedding day and hoping we can squeeze everything in before sunset. This is also one of those situations where a first look can be really helpful. It gives us more time earlier in the day for portraits of the two of you! This also includes your wedding party and even some family photos while we still have plenty of natural light. Plus, nobody has to spend cocktail hour speed-running every photo combination on the list!
But no, we’re not going to make you stand outside freezing for an hour just because we want outdoor photos. We’ll be strategic about it! We can head outside when the light looks good, get what we need, and get everyone back inside to warm up. Your wedding photos should not require losing feeling in your fingers.

Pretty outdoor grounds are great, but having indoor spaces you actually like matters just as much. Winter weather can change quickly, and having options gives us a lot more flexibility to adjust the photography timeline without making the entire day feel like it’s suddenly running on Plan B!
Looking Back at Their Cameron Estate Inn Wedding
There was a lot packed into this wedding, and that’s probably what we liked most about photographing it. Every part of the day felt a little different, and there was always something happening that was worth paying attention to.
The bride’s friend was making her bouquet while everyone got ready. She had the photo of her dad tucked into her necklace. There were quiet moments of prayer. Followed not too long after by Laedor turning around to find a very large man in a wedding dress waiting for him. Their ceremony included three languages and a Vietnamese tea ceremony, and later everyone was out on the dance floor for plenty of Latin dancing.
It was a really fun mix of meaningful and completely unserious moments, which is pretty true to how most weddings actually feel. We also loved how involved their people were throughout the whole day. Their friends weren’t just standing beside them for photos, and their families weren’t simply watching everything happen. They were helping, participating in traditions, praying with them, laughing with them, and eventually taking over the dance floor.
Those are the things we really enjoy documenting. Of course, we’re going to photograph the details and give you the beautiful portraits, but we also want the photos that show what your wedding actually felt like and who was there experiencing it with you.
